Why Embracing Biblical Values in the Workplace Is the Price for Success

When the 2010 Haiti earthquake hit, the Port au Prince airport closed down, making it difficult for non-governmental organizations like Somebody Cares to provide supplies and assistance to our ministry partners there. At the same time, an economic downturn in the U.S. was creating a challenge for businesses and corporations—including Insperity. But even in the midst of their own financial difficulties, the leadership of Insperity provided a private plane and pilots to transport our team of medical personnel, food and housing providers and chaplains to assess the needs and begin providing relief to the Haitian people, who were desperately hurting and in need.

"Bad times are really opportunities to show what you believe," explains Jay Mincks, Insperity's executive vice president of sales and marketing. "If you don't behave properly during a disaster, all the things you did before aren't going to matter. Sending the aircraft to Haiti was not a tough decision. We just got together and said, 'Hey, let's let go of the plane.' It was an opportunity to show our true values, which are the values of Jesus Christ. Biblical values are what we embrace and hold dear."

Several years ago—when he and his wife had just come out of a season of financial hardship and were sincerely seeking the Lord—Mincks met Insperity founder Paul Sarvadi at church. Sarvadi was speaking that night on the subject of the workplace being an opportunity for ministry. "It was the message I needed to hear at that time," he recalls. "It was the beginning of a quest for me."

Mincks teamed up with Sarvadi at Insperity and eventually began leading the company's growth division. Insperity has since experienced a dramatic increase in company revenue, from $50 million to over $4 billion in 2020. Yet, despite these numbers, Insperity consistently and intentionally recognizes the value of its employees.

"Your people are everything. Without employees, you can't extend yourself," Mincks says. "We have a business where our employees want to give extra. This comes out of trust. Our employees trust the leadership at Insperity because we've demonstrated time and time again what they mean to us. Our people care because we care for them first."

As Mincks currently transitions into retirement, he recognizes that the foundations of his ministry will remain the same.

"What I'm doing in this life after Insperity is the same thing I've been doing," he says. "I'm going to bless as many people as I possibly can, mentor people and try to make a difference in people's lives. Because that's my heart."
